What We Do

Practical, relational, and rooted in the specific needs of Glenrothes — delivered across the community, week after week.

A group of adults with disabilities walking along an accessible path through a Glenrothes park, supported by a staff member.
Our delivery model

Built on consistency.
Powered by trust.

On any given week, Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda staff and volunteers are working across multiple venues in Glenrothes — setting up accessible session spaces, welcoming participants who have travelled by adapted minibus or on foot, facilitating health workshops, leading gentle outdoor walks.

We do not deliver generic health promotion; we deliver health and wellbeing support that has been shaped by disabled people in Glenrothes, for disabled people in Glenrothes.

Our delivery model is built on consistency and trust. We work in the same venues, with the same staff, week after week, because we know that reliability matters enormously to participants who may have had unreliable experiences of services in the past.

We take referrals from GPs, social workers, occupational therapists, and other local agencies, and we also welcome self-referrals and walk-ins — there is no waiting list and no complex assessment process. If someone wants to attend a session, we will do everything we can to make it possible for them. We adapt our sessions continuously based on participant feedback, and we invest in staff training to ensure that our team can support people with the widest possible range of disabilities and health conditions.

We sit with individuals who want to talk through a letter they have received from their GP or consultant. We help people understand their medication. We walk beside those who rarely leave the house. We celebrate small moments of connection because we know that for many of our participants, those moments are not small at all.

Our current programmes

Four accessible programmes running regularly across Glenrothes community venues.

🧘
Programme 1

Wellbeing Wednesdays

Weekly · Woodside Community Centre & Dovecot Community Hub

A weekly accessible wellbeing session covering movement, relaxation, and mental health awareness, held at ground-floor venues across Glenrothes.

Wellbeing Wednesdays runs every week across two Glenrothes venues, offering a consistent, welcoming space for disabled participants to engage with gentle movement, guided relaxation, and peer conversation. Sessions are facilitated by trained staff and are fully adapted for wheelchair users, people with sensory impairments, and those with learning disabilities. Participants tell us that the regularity and reliability of the sessions matters as much as the content itself — knowing that the door will be open, every week, no matter what.

Health Literacy Workshops

Monthly blocks · In partnership with NHS Fife Health Promotion

Practical workshops helping disabled people in Glenrothes understand NHS letters, medication information, and their rights as patients.

Navigating the health system is complicated for anyone; for many disabled people it presents an additional layer of challenge. Our Health Literacy Workshops cover topics such as understanding your diagnosis, communicating with GPs and specialists, making sense of prescription information, and knowing what reasonable adjustments you are entitled to request. All materials are produced in easy-read and large-print formats, and we offer BSL interpretation on request.

Programme 3

Outdoor Wellbeing

Fortnightly spring–autumn · Riverside Park & Carleton Park

Fully accessible guided walks and nature-based sessions in Glenrothes' parks and green spaces, adapted for a range of mobility and sensory needs.

Glenrothes is unusually rich in accessible green space for a Scottish new town, and our Outdoor Wellbeing programme makes the most of that. Routes are assessed before each session by our staff, and we provide adapted equipment including Nordic walking poles. Participants with visual impairments are supported with a sighted guide service, and those with higher support needs are welcome to bring a personal assistant at no additional cost.

Programme 4

Connect & Thrive

Weekly & monthly · Various Glenrothes community venues

A peer support and social connection programme tackling the isolation that so many disabled people in Glenrothes experience, built around shared activity and mutual support.

Social isolation is one of the most significant and least acknowledged health risks facing disabled people in communities like Glenrothes. Connect & Thrive brings small groups of participants together around shared interests — crafts, discussion, cooking, music — in a supported, accessible setting. Monthly coffee mornings provide a lower-commitment entry point, while the weekly craft and activity group offers a more regular rhythm for those who want it. Connections formed in this programme have led to lasting friendships and informal peer support networks that continue well beyond our sessions.

How to access our sessions

No waiting list. No complex assessment.

We take referrals from GPs, social workers, occupational therapists, and other local agencies — and we also welcome self-referrals and walk-ins. If someone wants to attend a session, we will do everything we can to make it possible.

Referrals can be made by email or phone. We respond within two working days and will discuss accessibility requirements, transport, and any other needs before a participant's first session. There is no assessment process and no charge to participants.
