About Vibrant Health
Advocates – Andromeda

A community-rooted SCIO placing accessibility at its absolute centre, not as a compliance box to tick, but as a founding value.

Who we are

Rooted in Glenrothes, accountable to our community

Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in Scotland and based in Glenrothes, Fife.

We exist to make health and wellbeing support genuinely accessible to disabled people living in Glenrothes and the surrounding new town communities — a population that has historically faced significant barriers to mainstream provision. Our work spans physical wellbeing, mental health awareness, health literacy, and social connection, delivered through a programme of regular sessions, workshops, and outreach activities.

Glenrothes was built as a new town in the post-war decades, and its geography — dispersed housing schemes, a town centre that has changed considerably over the years, variable public transport — creates real access challenges for people with mobility impairments, sensory disabilities, learning disabilities, and long-term health conditions. We know this landscape intimately.

Our staff and volunteers are local people; many have personal or family experience of disability. That knowledge means we design provision that reflects the real texture of life in this town, not an idealised version of it.

As a SCIO, we are governed by a board of trustees drawn from the Glenrothes community, including disabled people with lived experience of the issues we address. We are accountable to our participants, our funders, and the wider Fife community, and we publish our accounts and annual report through OSCR in line with our legal obligations. We hold membership of Fife Voluntary Action and collaborate regularly with NHS Fife Health Promotion, Fife Council Social Work, and a range of local disability organisations.

Our origin

How it all began

Community wellbeing session in Glenrothes.

From informal drop-ins to a
constituted SCIO

Built by the people who kept hitting the same walls — and decided to do something about it.

Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda grew out of a series of informal health information drop-ins organised in Glenrothes by a small group of local disabled people and their allies who kept encountering the same problem: the information was out there, but it wasn't reaching the people who needed it most.

Workshops were held in buildings with broken lifts. Leaflets were written in language nobody without a clinical background could decode. Appointments were available, but only to those who could navigate the phone lines, the waiting rooms, and the systems.

The founding group decided that rather than wait for statutory services to catch up, they would build something themselves — a community-rooted organisation that placed accessibility at its absolute centre, not as a compliance box to tick, but as a founding value. After months of community consultation, governance work, and relationship-building with funders and partners, Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda was constituted as a SCIO and began delivering its first regular sessions from a Glenrothes community hall.

In the years since, we have grown steadily — adding programmes, reaching new venues, and deepening our partnerships with NHS Fife and local authority services — but our founding instinct has never changed. We still believe that health and wellbeing support works best when it is designed by and with the people it serves, when it is rooted in a specific place and its particular needs, and when it treats every participant as a capable adult with the right to make informed choices about their own health. Glenrothes is our home, and the disabled people of this town are the reason we exist.

Our purpose

Our Mission

Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda exists to ensure that disabled people living in Glenrothes and the surrounding Fife communities can access the wellbeing information, practical support, and meaningful social connection they need to live healthier, more informed, and more connected lives.

We deliver this mission through a programme of fully accessible sessions, workshops, and outreach activities, working in partnership with NHS Fife, Fife Council, and the local voluntary sector to reach the people most often left behind by mainstream provision.

We are guided by the principle that disability does not diminish a person's right to good health information, and that accessibility is not a luxury — it is the baseline from which all effective health work must begin.

Governance

Our Board of Trustees

Vibrant Health Advocates – Andromeda is governed by a voluntary board of trustees who bring together lived experience of disability, professional backgrounds in health, social care, and community development, and a deep connection to the Glenrothes area. Our trustees give their time freely, meet regularly throughout the year, and are ultimately responsible for the direction, governance, and financial stewardship of the charity. We are grateful for their commitment and expertise, which keeps our work grounded, well-governed, and genuinely responsive to the community we serve.
